Two concepts are often confused: dry skin and dehydrated skin — they're different. Dry skin is a skin type linked to a lipid (oil) deficiency. Dehydrated skin is a condition linked to a water deficiency, and can occur in any skin type (including oily).
Dry skin feels persistently flaky, tight and rough. Dehydrated skin may look temporarily dull, with fine lines more visible, feeling "thirsty" — yet it can also be oily. Knowing this distinction helps choose the right care.
Dry skin calls for lipid-focused care (skin-identical lipids), dehydrated skin for water-binding humectants (glycerin, hyaluronic acid). Good care usually balances both. Consult a physician to identify which your skin needs.
