The scalp has a barrier like facial and body skin and works on the same principles. A few differences: hair follicle density and sebaceous activity are higher, and hair means cleansing and care require a slightly different approach.
The scalp barrier can also be strained. Harsh shampoos, very frequent and very hot washing, aggressive brushing and some styling products can cause dryness, tightness or sensitivity. In such cases the focus should be on the scalp, not the hair.
Principles of gentle scalp care: mild, well-tolerated cleansers, lukewarm water, gentle massage with fingertips (not nails) and low fragrance load. The Zeitschild range includes a product for sensitive scalp. See a dermatologist for persistent scalp discomfort.
